Pour la sixième nuit d’affilée, l’aviation américaine a mené de nouvelles frappes contre l’Iran dans la nuit de jeudi à vendredi. Le commandement américain a annoncé avoir visé des dizaines de cibles militaires iraniennes, parmi lesquelles des sites de surveillance côtière, des systèmes de défense antiaérienne, des infrastructures logistiques militaires ainsi que des installations maritimes.
De son côté, Téhéran a dénoncé des bombardements ayant touché des ponts, un port, un aéroport et une gare, faisant état d’un bilan d’au moins huit morts et une vingtaine de blessés. Un porte-parole de l’armée iranienne a averti que si les infrastructures du pays continuaient d’être prises pour cible, l’ensemble des infrastructures présentes dans la région deviendrait à son tour une cible légitime pour l’Iran, une menace directement adressée aux alliés régionaux de Washington.
Cette nouvelle vague de violence marque une rupture nette avec l’accalmie relative observée depuis le mois d’avril. Les hostilités avaient repris début juillet à la suite d’attaques visant des navires dans le Golfe, imputées à Téhéran, et l’ampleur des frappes menées depuis lors est sans précédent depuis le cessez-le-feu conclu quelques mois plus tôt, compliquant sérieusement les efforts diplomatiques engagés pour aboutir à un règlement durable du conflit.
Il faut rappeler que cette guerre trouve son origine fin février, lorsque des frappes conjointes israélo-américaines avaient été lancées contre l’Iran. Depuis, le conflit a fait plusieurs milliers de morts, essentiellement en Iran et au Liban, tout en continuant de peser lourdement sur l’économie mondiale.
Sur place, la population iranienne vit ces bombardements dans l’angoisse. Un enseignant d’une ville du sud-ouest du pays a raconté avoir compté une dizaine d’explosions en une seule nuit, décrivant des attaques d’une violence telle qu’il en tremblait encore au moment de témoigner.
Le détroit d’Ormuz demeure au centre des enjeux stratégiques de ce conflit. Début juillet déjà, des frappes américaines avaient visé l’Iran dans l’objectif explicite de réduire l’emprise de Téhéran sur ce passage maritime vital, tandis que l’armée iranienne affirmait avoir répliqué contre plusieurs pays du Golfe alliés des États-Unis. Un accord signé à la mi-juin avait pourtant permis une réouverture temporaire de cette voie par laquelle transite une part considérable du pétrole et du gaz naturel liquéfié mondial, réouverture aujourd’hui largement remise en question par la reprise des hostilités.
Le conflit ne se cantonne plus au seul territoire iranien : plusieurs pays alliés de Washington dans la région rapportent désormais être eux aussi la cible de représailles, signe d’un embrasement qui déborde largement du cadre bilatéral initial entre Washington et Téhéran.
Sur le plan intérieur, la pression s’accentue également sur les infrastructures énergétiques iraniennes. Le ministère de l’Énergie a appelé la population à réduire sa consommation d’électricité, notamment en limitant l’usage de la climatisation pendant les heures de pointe, le réseau électrique étant mis à rude épreuve par les frappes visant des installations énergétiques dans le sud du pays — une situation d’autant plus délicate que plusieurs provinces subissent en parallèle une vague de chaleur extrême.
