Form\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019Institut sup\u00e9rieur des arts dramatiques de Sofia, en Bulgarie, il entame sa carri\u00e8re \u00e0 la fin des ann\u00e9es 1980 avec une vision novatrice du th\u00e9\u00e2tre, centr\u00e9e sur le corps, l\u2019image et l\u2019expression libre.<br \/>\nEn 1989, il fonde \u00e0 M\u00e9denine une troupe de th\u00e9\u00e2tre exp\u00e9rimental, puis cr\u00e9e en 1992 le Festival national du th\u00e9\u00e2tre exp\u00e9rimental, devenu depuis un rendez-vous majeur pour les amateurs de cr\u00e9ation contemporaine. Il est \u00e9galement le fondateur et directeur du Centre des arts dramatiques et sc\u00e9niques de M\u00e9denine, qu\u2019il transforme en v\u00e9ritable laboratoire de recherche th\u00e9\u00e2trale.<br \/>\nTout au long de sa carri\u00e8re, Anouar Chaafi met en sc\u00e8ne plus d\u2019une vingtaine de pi\u00e8ces marqu\u00e9es par une forte exigence esth\u00e9tique et une exploration profonde des th\u00e8mes de la m\u00e9moire, de l\u2019identit\u00e9 et des rapports entre science et humanit\u00e9. Parmi ses \u0153uvres les plus marquantes figurent Le Cauchemar d\u2019Einstein et Notes sur une bande m\u00e9moire, deux spectacles salu\u00e9s pour leur audace formelle et leur port\u00e9e philosophique.<br \/>\nIl a aussi occup\u00e9 d&rsquo;importantes fonctions dans les institutions culturelles tunisiennes, notamment en tant que directeur g\u00e9n\u00e9ral du Th\u00e9\u00e2tre national tunisien entre 2012 et 2014, et plus r\u00e9cemment en tant que sous-directeur au minist\u00e8re des Affaires culturelles.<br \/>\nEn 2022, il est honor\u00e9 au Festival international du th\u00e9\u00e2tre exp\u00e9rimental du Caire pour l\u2019ensemble de son \u0153uvre.
